Naran is the main base for upper Kaghan Valley. Its value lies not only in the town itself but in the network of lake, meadow and pass routes that begin nearby or continue north along N-15.

Saiful Muluk

Saiful Muluk is the signature alpine lake near Naran, set below high mountain scenery. Access is normally arranged locally and can be affected by road and weather conditions.

Go early for calmer conditions, carry warm clothing and keep a respectful distance from the water’s edge. Do not leave food packaging or plastic at the lake.

The northern road: Lulusar and Babusar

When the road is officially open, the drive north from Naran reveals changing valley scenery before reaching Lulusar Lake and Babusar Top. This is a long, high-elevation outing rather than a quick add-on.

Start early, limit unnecessary stops on dangerous shoulders and turn back if visibility or weather deteriorates. Babusar access is seasonal.

  • Lulusar Lake for open high-valley scenery
  • Babusar Top for wide mountain views
  • Jalkhad and roadside landscapes along the route

Enjoy Naran at a slower pace

The Kunhar River, town bazaar and nearby viewpoints provide a lighter day between long excursions. Use this time to rest, check the next day’s conditions and enjoy local food.

River currents are powerful. Stay within safe public areas and follow local warnings rather than approaching fast water for photographs.

Build a realistic itinerary

Do not combine Saiful Muluk, Lulusar and Babusar Top into one rushed day. Give each major direction its own day and retain a flexible half-day for weather.

Two or three nights suit a first visit. Longer stays are worthwhile when you want slower mornings or additional trekking with qualified local guidance.
